CitiBank is launching a free credit card for American citizens who want to earn income abroad.
CitiBank announced the new card, dubbed “Airline Visa,” on Tuesday, with plans to offer the card at some of its locations in the U.S. The card will be offered by CitiLink, the online bank in partnership with Airline and Citi, according to a Citi statement.
American citizens can apply for the card by visiting the Citilink website or calling 1-800-777-4768.
“With a new generation of millennials, the airline industry and CITES are the perfect places to earn cash and earn in-flight rewards, and we think this is a great opportunity to introduce our card to a new and growing segment of our community,” Citi chief operating officer and chief financial officer Brian Kelly said in a statement.
“Airlines, hotels and restaurants have become the go-to destination for millions of Americans who are looking to earn their money outside of their home country.
CITEX, the global exchange and payment network, is also working with Citi on this card, as is our partners at Visa.”
CitiLink offers credit cards to American citizens in a number of countries, including Mexico, Brazil, Mexico, the U, the UK, Canada and the United States.
The company’s new card will initially be available to customers who are enrolled in the airline loyalty program.
After the first month, customers can earn 1,000 points per $1 spent on American-issued credit cards at Citi and Visa, up to a maximum of 1,200 points per dollar spent on all Citi or Visa cards.
Citi will pay the points at a 3.5% fee.
A minimum of 100 points per card is required.
