Now It is the first time Trump has publicly spoken about the tax returns he plans on releasing.
He says he won’t be releasing them until the end of the year.
In a brief statement, Trump said that he is not planning to release his tax returns to protect the American people and the election from “unfair and false attacks.”
But he also said that the press has “no credibility.”
He called the IRS “the single greatest law enforcement agency in the world,” saying that he has “never seen a bigger abuse of power” than what it is accused of.
Trump said in his statement that “the IRS has taken on many of the worst cases of tax fraud in our country’s history, including the phony health insurance and mortgage fraud schemes.”
But the IRS has not been accused of any crimes related to the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups.
Trump also said in the statement that he will release his returns once he completes a new investigation into the tax issues.
Trump’s legal team has asked the Senate Judiciary Committee to withhold a subpoena that would require the IRS to produce Trump’s returns.
Senate Democrats have said they would withhold the subpoena if it did not include information about the Trump administration’s relationship with Russia.
They also said they were considering delaying the subpoena for a week, according to The Washington Post.
The White House has repeatedly called the Senate inquiry “the most politically motivated witch hunt in American political history.”
The president and members of his team have been under fire for years for not disclosing more about their financial dealings with Russia or their personal finances.
But Republicans have called the president’s silence an affront to the public’s trust and for undermining the investigation into Russian meddling.
Trump has said repeatedly that he did not know of Russia’s attempts to influence the election.
