New York (CNN) — “The Lad” will be the new national dining and bar concept for the New York State Department of Transportation, which announced on Thursday that the establishment would be named after the late, great-grandfather of the New Yorker.
“The LAD” will replace the existing Lad Lounge at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, which closed in November after four decades.
It will open next month at a site at the intersection of Grand and Lexington Avenues in Midtown Manhattan.
The Lad Lounge closed in 2012 after nearly 40 years in business.
The new establishment will offer a full menu, including appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts.
The menu will also include a beer garden, a bar and lounge area, a live music venue and a restaurant bar, all designed to appeal to a broader New Yorker customer base.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has been a proponent of the idea of a restaurant named after a city landmark.
“For a city where there are many stories, there’s no one place like The Lad,” de Blasio said in September.
“It will be an homage to the history of this city.”
The new restaurant will open in the early summer of 2019.
The Brooklyn Navy Yards is home to the Brooklyn Nets basketball team.
